José Guadalupe Fuentes Ochoa, Lucha Libre star ‘Baby Face’, dies at 79

Lucha libre star José Guadalupe Fuentes Ochoa, widely known by his ring name ‘Baby Face’, has died at the age of 79. The news was shared by retired luchador El Hijo del Santo, who described Fuentes Ochoa as a ‘great figure of Mexican Wrestling’.

Born in Colima, Mexico, in 1947, Fuentes Ochoa began his professional career in the 1970s. Despite his nickname, he was primarily known as a ‘rudo’, or heel, and was a prominent figure in the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA) and EMLL. His career included multiple international tours with New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he competed against notable figures such as Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami.

During his tenure, he held the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship for 570 days starting in 1981. After a severe injury in 2000 ended his 32-year in-ring career, he transitioned into the culinary industry with his business, ‘Baby Face’s Rice Dishes’.
