Death of Mexican wrestler Baby Face

Overview

Mexican wrestling legend José Guadalupe Fuentes Ochoa, known by the ring name ‘Baby Face’, has died at the age of 79.

Fuentes Ochoa had a professional career spanning over three decades, beginning in the 1970s. While his nickname suggested a different persona, he was primarily known as a ‘rudo’, or heel. He competed in major venues such as Arena México and Toreo de Cuatro Caminos for organizations including CMLL, EMLL, and the UWA. His career included international tours with New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he faced notable figures such as Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami.

He held the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship for 570 days starting in 1981. Following a career-ending injury in 2000, he transitioned into the culinary industry, operating a rice specialty restaurant inspired by his interest in oriental gastronomy.

Fellow wrestler El Hijo del Santo confirmed the news, describing him as a ‘great figure of Mexican Wrestling’. Reports indicate his death may have been related to renal and cardiac complications following a recent hospitalization.
