Francisco Adorni attributes asset declaration error to extra zero
Francisco Adorni, a Buenos Aires deputy for La Libertad Avanza, has submitted a legal defense to explain significant inconsistencies in his 2024 asset declaration. Adorni is currently under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment.
The core of the dispute involves a reported mortgage debt. Adorni’s 2024 declaration listed an initial debt of $130 million and a closing balance of $60 million. Prosecutor Guillermo Marijuan argued this implied an unexplained $70 million reduction in debt. Adorni contends this was a clerical error, asserting he accidentally added an extra zero and that the actual initial debt was $13 million.
Adorni argues the explanation is “materially plausible” because the incorrect figure is exactly ten times the correct amount. He maintains that the error was unintentional and that the investigation itself helped him identify and correct the administrative mistake. Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas is reviewing the submission to determine whether to proceed with a formal indictment.
