José Ruiz campaigns for mayor in Argentine municipality
Retired military officer José Ruiz, the Liberal party candidate, announced his platform ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for 2 August. He said residents are demanding change and have grown tired of political falsehoods, emphasizing the need for trust, order and disciplined governance.
Ruiz pledged to audit the city’s finances, citing perceived imbalances such as a 700‑million‑peso allocation for education and over two billion for the city council, while public services receive 25 billion. He plans to attract private investment, including a recycling plant to create jobs, and is considering reviving the local Salamanca Festival under a new name to restore community involvement.
Key proposals also include stricter budget oversight, encouragement of private sector participation, and the promotion of cultural events to boost civic pride.
