Kosovo grants citizenship to Joe and Shirley DioGuardi

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has officially granted citizenship to former US Congressman Joe DioGuardi and his wife, activist Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, in recognition of their decades of support for Kosovo. During the ceremony, the DioGuardis emphasized the importance of consolidating the nation and warned that political instability could leave Kosovo vulnerable to regional threats.

Simultaneously, Kosovo's political landscape remains focused on the urgent need to elect a consensus president. LDK Deputy Ukë Rugova stated that a name for a consensus candidate is expected soon, following ongoing discussions between the LDK and Vetëvendosje (LVV) parties. While parties have agreed on the necessary criteria and principles for the role, a specific candidate has not yet been finalized. LVV representative Arbërie Nagavci noted that while meetings with the LDK have been constructive, the political deadlock persists as parties work toward a unified decision to avoid new elections.
