Recognition of Joe and Shirley DioGuardi in Kosovo

Overview

Former US Congressman Joe DioGuardi and his wife, activist Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, have received high-level recognition from Kosovo for their long-term support of the nation and the rights of the Albanian people.

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu officially granted the couple citizenship in recognition of their decades of advocacy. Following this, the University of Prishtina awarded them the title of ‘Doctor Honoris Causa’. University Rector Arben Hajrullahu praised the couple for their role in ‘internationalizing the Kosovo issue’ and providing a voice for the region during periods of repression in the 1980s and 1990s.
