Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University suspends 2026/2027 fee increase

Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) has suspended a proposed increase in undergraduate school fees for the 2026/2027 academic session. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Itodo announced the decision following consultations with university administrative bodies and in response to concerns raised by students regarding the financial burden on their families.

Prof. Itodo acknowledged the economic difficulties facing parents and guardians in meeting the costs of higher education. While the university did not disclose the specific amount of the originally proposed increase, the administration confirmed that existing fee structures will remain unchanged for the upcoming session.

The university management stated it remains committed to balancing institutional development needs with the financial realities of its community. Additionally, the administration emphasized the importance of resuming academic activities promptly to recover learning time lost to previous strikes and disruptions, aiming to progress the academic calendar ahead of the 2027 general elections.
