Josimar Batista Ferreira inaugurated as Ufac rector
Professor Josimar Batista Ferreira has been inaugurated as the rector of the Federal University of Acre (Ufac) for the 2026-2030 term. The ceremony took place at the University Theater in Rio Branco, also marking the inauguration of Vice-Rector Almecina Balbino Ferreira.
Ferreira, the 12th rector since the institution's founding in 1964, was elected in March with 52.74% of the votes. His administration aims to focus on student welfare, monitoring daily routines from university restaurants to laboratory activities. A key initiative includes the creation of a new pro-rectorate for affirmative action, focusing on gender, equity, and inclusion.
In his remarks, Ferreira emphasized a “reitoria de portas abertas” (open doors rectorate) policy, seeking to connect the university more closely with society and the labor market while maintaining a management style close to students, professors, and staff.
