Federal University of Acre leadership transition
Overview
Josimar Ferreira has assumed leadership of the Federal University of Acre (Ufac) for the 2026–2030 quadrennium. Following his election in March with 52.74% of the vote, Ferreira was officially inaugurated alongside Vice-Rector Almecina Balbino Ferreira in a ceremony at the University Theater in Rio Branco.
The new administration has identified several strategic priorities, including budget evaluation to ensure operational continuity, the resumption of in-person university council meetings, and the expansion of the university’s presence in regions such as Sena Madureira, Tarauacá, and Envira. Ferreira also intends to establish a specific pro-rectory dedicated to affirmative action, equity, gender, and inclusion.
Ferreira, the 12th rector in the institution’s history, has pledged a “reitoria de portas abertas” (open doors rectorate) policy. This approach aims to connect the university more closely with the labor market and society while focusing on student welfare and daily institutional routines.
