Peru authorities condemn disclosure of minor's identity on television
Peruvian authorities and journalistic organizations have condemned the disclosure of a minor's identity during a television broadcast. The incident occurred on September 18, 2026, during the program ‘Esta Noche’ on Panamericana Televisión, where journalist Milagros Leiva read the full name of an adolescent who is a presumed victim of sexual violence in the Liceo Naval Almirante Guise case.
Leiva acknowledged the error during the live broadcast and issued a public apology. However, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), the Ministry of Justice, and the Lima College of Journalists have all formally criticized the action, stating it violates the minor's right to privacy and risks revictimization. The disclosure contravenes legal protections established in the Code of Children and Adolescents and the Penal Code.
The National Society of Radio and Television (SNRTV) has launched an official complaint against Panamericana Televisión. The technical secretariat has referred the case to the Ethics Commission to determine if the broadcaster violated principles regarding the protection of children and the dignity of human beings. The media outlet has three business days to present its defense.
