Journalist Carlos Julio Rojas acquitted after two-year trial
Journalist and activist Carlos Julio Rojas has been fully acquitted by the First Trial Court with jurisdiction in Terrorism, ending a judicial process that lasted more than two years and five months.
The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) reported that the court's decision restores Rojas's full freedom and lifts previous restrictions. During the hearing, prosecutor Carlos Alcalá stated there was no evidence to support a conviction against the journalist for charges including regicide and terrorism.
While Rojas was acquitted, two other individuals processed in the same case were sentenced to four years in prison for illegal possession of weapons. Rojas expressed gratitude to his legal team and journalistic guilds, stating, “Today I can finally say that I am a free man.”
