Journalist Roxana Guzmán kidnapped in Veracruz, Mexico

On June 2 2026, armed men forcibly entered the home of journalist Roxana Berenice Guzmán Ramírez in Nanchital, Veracruz, and abducted her. The Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office opened a criminal investigation, and Governor Rocío Nahle confirmed that state, federal and local security forces have launched an extensive search, deploying land and aerial patrols across neighboring municipalities.

The operation involves the Secretaría de Marina, the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, the Guardia Nacional, state police, and municipal police.

Human‑rights groups have urged swift action. Amnesty International labeled the kidnapping a grave threat to press freedom. As of now, her whereabouts remain unknown.
