Journalists attacked by thugs in Kano following APC rally

Journalists and security personnel were attacked by suspected thugs in Kano, Nigeria, following an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Saturday. The incident occurred near the North West University City Campus as media professionals were returning to their offices.

The attackers, reportedly armed with machetes and knives, targeted a vehicle carrying four staff members from Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM, a journalist from Guarantee Radio, and three policemen. Despite the presence of security personnel, the assailants smashed the vehicle's windows and damaged the rear glass. The driver sustained injuries, and several journalists were struck by broken glass during the assault.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano State Council has condemned the attack, describing it as a serious threat to press freedom and a setback to democracy. The Council called for a thorough investigation, expressing concern over the safety of media professionals as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
