Journalists in Gaza face personal risks amid ongoing conflict

Journalists working in Gaza are facing extreme personal risks as they transition from observers to targets of the conflict. Ahmed Ghanem, a correspondent for Al Mayadeen, described the psychological and physical toll of reporting from Deir Al Balah, noting that the distinction between reporting the news and becoming part of the tragedy has vanished for many in the field.

Photographer Motaz Azaiza revealed that he recorded footage of Israeli hostages being assaulted by crowds on October 7, 2023, but chose not to publish it to prevent Israel from identifying and retaliating against the Palestinians appearing in the videos. Azaiza also criticized Hamas leadership, arguing that their military decisions have failed to protect Gazan civilians and questioning the strategic value of the ongoing conflict.
