Journalists operating in Gaza have faced extreme dangers during military operations. An Israeli airstrike targeting a media tent outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City killed Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif and five colleagues, including correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and cameramen Mohammed Noufal and Ibrahim Zaher. Further casualties occurred during a strike on Nasser Hospital on August 25, 2025, which killed 22 Palestinians, including Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri and visual journalist Mariam Dagga. While Israeli officials initially claimed the strike targeted a Hamas camera on the hospital roof, an anonymous Israeli soldier stated that the military found no evidence linking al-Masri’s camera to Hamas and that none of the six individuals alleged to be linked to Hamas were the intended targets. The Israeli military has stated the incident is being examined to determine if a criminal investigation is warranted, though no timeline for a verdict has been provided.
