Journalists in Togo demand justice two years after Lomé assault

Two years after an assault on journalists at the headquarters of the Democratic Convention of African Peoples (CDPA) in Lomé, Togo, victims are calling for judicial accountability. The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, during a civic meeting involving Senegalese deputy and ECOWAS parliamentarian Guy Marius Sagna.

Six journalists—Yvette Sossou, Godfrey Akpa, Hyacinthe Gbloédzro, Yawo Klousse, Romuald Koffi Lansou, and Albert Agbeko—reported that the situation turned violent when individuals in the audience began throwing objects. During the chaos, the journalists were targeted, and their professional equipment was seized and destroyed.

The victims have issued a joint statement denouncing the ongoing silence from judicial authorities. They are demanding that the perpetrators be identified and that they receive updates regarding the legal proceedings initiated following the attack.
