Jovanka Porsche launches luxury train conference from Duisburg to China

Entrepreneur Jovanka Porsche has launched a pilot project titled ‘Ways into the Future’ to establish a new conference format using luxury trains as a ‘rolling think tank’. Running from October 18 to November 4, the initiative aims to foster intensive dialogue and genuine encounters among influential figures, contrasting with the perceived inefficiency of large-scale events like the World Economic Forum.

The journey follows the historic Silk Road route. Participants will travel by train from Duisburg to Istanbul, followed by a flight to Samarkand, Uzbekistan. From there, the journey continues by rail to Almaty, Kazakhstan, and eventually reaches Xi’an, China, via the border city of Khorgos.

The project is personally funded by Porsche, founder of the Vienna-based think tank Global Neighbours, though she intends to develop a membership-based business model similar to the WEF. The initial group of approximately 80 participants includes scientists and political professionals such as Armin Laschet, Philipp Rösler, and former Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern.
