JPJ intensifies crackdown on illegal motorcycle modifications

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has intensified its crackdown on illegal motorcycle modifications and racing through its ‘Ops Ekstrem’ initiative. During a recent operation in Kuala Lumpur, authorities inspected 443 motorcycles, resulting in enforcement action against 376 of them. The operation also identified six civil servants who were penalized for related offenses.

In one notable case, a man in his 20s had five motorcycles seized, including vehicles belonging to his parents, aunts, and brother. The motorcycles featured extreme modifications such as missing rear brakes, thin tires, and engine alterations used for racing and personal satisfaction. JPJ officials stated they will pursue the forfeiture of these five vehicles.

Since January, the nationwide ‘Ops Ekstrem’ has inspected 68,528 motorcycles, leading to 18,534 enforcement actions, the issuance of 30,846 notices, and the seizure of 1,942 motorcycles.
