JPJ seizes 23 luxury vehicles in Kuala Lumpur crackdown

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized 23 luxury and high-performance vehicles during a three-day special operation in Kuala Lumpur. The crackdown, which ran from Tuesday to Thursday, targeted various violations of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Among the seized vehicles were a Ferrari F8, Porsche Macan, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and various models from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, and Toyota. One notable incident involved a Rohingya man in his 20s who was caught driving a Honda Civic Type R without a valid license while traveling in a convoy. He reportedly claimed to be an employee of the vehicle owner.

During this specific operation, JPJ issued 96 notices. These included 39 cases of expired motor vehicle licenses, 30 cases of driving without insurance, three cases of driving without a valid license, and one instance of displaying an incorrect registration number.

JPJ Federal Territories Director Hamidi Adam stated that the 'Operasi Khas Luxury' has resulted in 179 vehicle seizures and 572 total notices issued since its commencement in January. He urged owners of high-value vehicles not to use their status as an excuse to bypass road regulations, emphasizing the necessity of valid road tax, insurance, and driving licenses.
