JPJ seizes 3,790 luxury vehicles in Ops Luxury
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has conducted ‘Ops Luxury’, resulting in the seizure of 3,790 vehicles. During the operation, authorities discovered that several luxury vehicle owners, including corporate members, entrepreneurs, and influencers, have failed to renew their road tax and insurance for extended periods. In some extreme cases, owners have not updated their documentation since 2014.
Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, Senior Director of Enforcement at JPJ, noted that many offenders belong to the T20 high-income group. Some owners reportedly refused to renew their documents due to outstanding traffic summonses, particularly for speeding or automated awareness system (Awas) violations.
Additionally, enforcement officers identified cases where owners attempted to deceive authorities by using the same registration number for two or three different luxury vehicles. Such actions are being treated as document forgery under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987. While supercar owners showed higher compliance rates, violations were most frequent among owners of BMW, Mercedes, Alphard, and Vellfire models.
