JR West enhances ICOCA services with new rewards programs

JR West is implementing significant updates to its ICOCA payment and loyalty ecosystem. Starting November 2, the company will launch ‘Mobiko GO’, a campaign designed to reward users who combine railway travel with shopping using Mobile ICOCA or Apple Pay ICOCA. Participants can earn up to 1,000 WESTER points monthly through the WESTER app until March 31, 2027.

As part of a broader transition toward digital services, JR West is revising its WESTER point structure. The company has already ceased new sales of physical ‘Smart ICOCA’ cards to encourage migration to mobile versions. Consequently, existing time-specific and usage-frequency points for physical IC cards will end following the December usage period.

Additionally, the ‘ICO+’ service for ICOCA commuter pass holders is being relaunched on October 1, 2026. The revamped service introduces a bingo-style format where users earn WESTER points by completing various challenges, such as using specific station services or shopping centers. This initiative aims to increase the utility and engagement of JR West services through gamified rewards.
