JR West ICOCA and WESTER Points service updates

JR West is introducing several new customer initiatives and service updates centered on its ICOCA electronic money and WESTER Points systems.

In late 2026, the company announced an ‘ICOCA Usage Appreciation Campaign’ for October, featuring a lottery for WESTER points and a new ‘WESTER Points Kansai-Hokuriku Free Pass’ available for purchase via the e5489 online reservation system. This pass allows for unlimited travel within the Kansai and Hokuriku areas for a set number of points.

Following these announcements, JR West expanded its digital service offerings. In November 2026, the company launched ‘Mobiko GO’, a campaign rewarding users who combine railway travel with shopping via Mobile ICOCA or Apple Pay ICOCA. To facilitate a transition toward digital services, JR West has ceased new sales of physical ‘Smart ICOCA’ cards and is revising its point structure. Additionally, the ‘ICO+’ service for commuter pass holders was relaunched in October 2026, utilizing a bingo-style format to encourage engagement through gamified rewards.
