Jürgen Klopp begins tenure as German national team coach

Jürgen Klopp has officially commenced his tenure as the head coach of the German national team, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann. His contract with the DFB is set to run until 2030, covering the 2028 European Championship and the 2030 World Cup.

During his first official day at the DFB campus in Frankfurt, Klopp addressed recent controversies. He expressed regret over his previous press conference, where his comments regarding the media were perceived as aggressive. He clarified that his intent was to protect his family from the intense tabloid scrutiny he experienced following his departure from Liverpool in 2024.

Klopp also addressed and denied rumors suggesting he had influenced a potential transfer of Saïd El Mala from 1. FC Köln to Borussia Dortmund, stating he had not contacted the player.

Looking ahead, Klopp's first competitive matches in the Nations League are scheduled for late September, beginning with an away game against the Netherlands. Additionally, FC Bayern Munich officials have expressed expectations that Klopp will attend their upcoming Supercup match and their Bundesliga season opener against VfB Stuttgart.
