Jürgen Klopp near Germany coach role as DFB talks with Red Bull owner
The German Football Association (DFB) is close to appointing former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as head coach of the national team. Ongoing negotiations involve Klopp, the DFB and his current employer Red Bull, with a possible contract running until 2030.
Approval from Chalerm Yoovidhya, the Thai majority owner of Red Bull, is considered essential. The issue is framed less as a financial transfer fee and more as securing acceptance and goodwill from the owner. Reports indicate a secret meeting between Red Bull executive Oliver Mintzlaff and DFB officials, and Klopp may retain an advisory link with Red Bull.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice‑president Hans‑Joachim Watzke view the matter as sensitive. A further meeting between Mintzlaff and Klopp is planned before the World Cup final in New York.
