JSW Group expands into electric commercial and hybrid vehicle markets

JSW Group is expanding its presence in the Indian automotive market through two distinct electrification initiatives. The group has launched AMPSTAR, a new electric mobility brand under JSW Greentech Limited, which focuses on the design and manufacture of electric buses and trucks.

AMPSTAR will operate as an integrated platform providing vehicles, charging infrastructure, financing, and after-sales support. Manufacturing will take place at a new 90-acre facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with a planned annual capacity of 15,000 units. The company is developing in-house technologies, including drivetrain logic and a double-cooling battery system, to suit local climate and road conditions.

Additionally, the company is preparing to enter the premium SUV segment with the JSW Combat PHEV, expected to launch in India by the end of 2026. This plug-in hybrid vehicle is anticipated to feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an 18.4 kWh battery pack, offering an estimated electric-only range of 90 km.
