JSW Group electric vehicle market expansion

JSW Group has entered the Indian electric vehicle market through its subsidiary, JSW Greentech Limited, by launching the AMPSTAR brand. This initiative focuses on the manufacturing of electric buses and heavy-duty trucks at a 90-acre facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility has an initial annual capacity of 15,000 units, specifically targeting a production split of 10,000 buses and 5,000 trucks.

AMPSTAR is positioned as a full-stack mobility provider, offering vehicles, charging infrastructure, financing, and services such as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). To address local conditions, the company is developing in-house technologies, including drivetrain logic and double-cooling battery systems. The vehicle lineup includes buses ranging from 7m to 18m and trucks starting with a 55-tonne tractor-trailer. Customers can choose between outright purchase, leasing, or the BaaS model.

Beyond commercial vehicles, the group is expanding into the premium SUV segment with the planned launch of the JSW Combat PHEV by the end of 2026. This plug-in hybrid is expected to feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and two electric motors, providing an estimated electric-only range of 90 km.
