JSW Group launches AMPSTAR electric bus and truck brand
JSW Group has officially entered the Indian electric commercial vehicle market through its subsidiary, JSW Greentech Limited, with the launch of the brand AMPSTAR. The company has invested approximately ₹2,500 crore to establish a large-scale manufacturing and mobility ecosystem focused on electric buses and heavy-duty trucks.
Production will be centered at a 90-acre greenfield facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which features an initial annual capacity of 15,000 units: 10,000 electric buses and 5,000 electric trucks. The facility is designed to include integrated battery capabilities and advanced manufacturing processes, such as India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition process for bus manufacturing.
AMPSTAR aims to provide a full-stack mobility solution, offering not only vehicles engineered for Indian road and climate conditions but also charging infrastructure, financing, and flexible ownership models like leasing and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). The company also operates an R&D center in Pune and has secured CMVR Type Approval from ARAI. Management has indicated that a second phase of investment, potentially between ₹1,500 crore and ₹2,000 crore, could be used to double manufacturing capacity.
