Juan B. Tejerina school moves to online classes after transformer theft
The Juan B. Tejerina primary school in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, has transitioned to online learning for approximately 15 days following the theft of a transformer and a subsequent liquid spill on the premises.
Nora Hilda de los Reyes Vázquez, the Subsecretary of Basic Education for Tamaulipas, stated that the decision was made to prioritize the safety and integrity of students and staff. While agencies such as Protección Civil, SEMARNAT, PROFEPA, and COEPRIS have issued reports, a specialized company has been commissioned to conduct a detailed analysis of the spilled liquid to determine its toxicity and risk level.
Depending on the results of the study, which is expected within a week, additional remediation work may be required, potentially involving the removal of asphalt. The school will continue remote activities until it is deemed safe to return to the classroom.
