Vancouver Island rescue teams use helicopter to save injured hiker

Search and rescue teams on Vancouver Island successfully executed a coordinated helicopter rescue of an 18-year-old hiker at Chin Beach on the Juan de Fuca Trail. The hiker had sustained a head injury, prompting a multi-agency response involving Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue, Shirley Fire, North Shore Rescue, Talon Helicopters, and BC Emergency Health Services.

Rescuers landed a helicopter on the beach to transfer the patient to a flight team that included an ER physician. The hiker was then flown to a nearby landing zone for paramedic care. This incident follows several other recent rescues in the region, including an August 30 operation in East Sooke Park where a hiker with a lower-leg injury and her two dogs were rescued, and a separate incident near Botanical Beach involving a hiker who fell on slippery rocks.
