Juan Guillermo Monsalve transferred to Cómbita maximum security prison
Juan Guillermo Monsalve, a key witness in the legal proceedings involving former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, has been transferred to the Cómbita maximum security prison in Boyacá. The transfer follows his relocation from La Picota prison in Bogotá.
The move was ordered by President Abelardo de la Espriella as part of a ‘zero tolerance’ policy aimed at eliminating prisoner privileges. The administration cited Monsalve’s repeated violations of prison regulations at La Picota, where he was reportedly seen consuming alcohol and participating in parties. The government intends to end the use of unofficial residential spaces, such as the fiscal house Monsalve had occupied since 2008, to prevent prisons from serving as criminal operational centers.
The transfer was delayed briefly due to a reported cardiovascular complication Monsalve experienced upon being notified of the move, but he has since been stabilized and arrived at the new facility.
