Juanma Moreno defends democratic transparency amid PSOE vote-buying allegations

Juanma Moreno, President of the Junta of Andalusia and leader of the People's Party (PP) in the region, has expressed confidence in Spain's democratic transparency mechanisms despite recent doubts raised by party members regarding mail-in voting.

Speaking in Madrid during a national PP board meeting, Moreno accused the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) of having a “long experience of vote buying or attempts at vote buying” in Andalusia. He specifically cited a case involving a former PSOE national deputy investigated for alleged fraud during the May 2019 municipal elections in Albaida del Aljarafe, noting that the individual allegedly increased the number of socialist voters fivefold through such means.

Moreno called for the Electoral Board to utilize its instruments to ensure maximum transparency and prevent fraudulent use of voting mechanisms. He also expressed hope that the upcoming electoral campaign for the November 29 general elections would proceed with “reasonableness, serenity, and reasonable political confrontation,” rather than a “manichean use of institutions.”
