Andalusian political disputes and voting allegations

Overview

Andalusian President Juanma Moreno has addressed allegations of electoral misconduct involving the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). During a national People's Party (PP) board meeting in Madrid, Moreno expressed confidence in Spain's democratic transparency mechanisms while simultaneously accusing the PSOE of having a “long experience of vote buying or attempts at vote buying” in Andalusia.

Moreno specifically referenced a case involving a former PSOE national deputy investigated for alleged fraud during the May 2019 municipal elections in Albaida del Aljarafe, where it was noted the individual allegedly increased socialist voters fivefold. In response to concerns regarding mail-in voting, Moreno called on the Electoral Board to utilize all available instruments to ensure transparency. He stated his hope that the upcoming November 29 general elections would be characterized by “reasonableness, serenity, and reasonable political confrontation” rather than a “manichean use of institutions.”
