Juazeiro do Norte expands Ecopontos to combat irregular waste disposal

Juazeiro do Norte is expanding the implementation of Ecopontos to combat the irregular disposal of waste in public spaces, such as squares and vacant lots. The initiative aims to mitigate environmental impacts, improve urban cleanliness, and protect public health.

New structures are being constructed in the Campo Alegre and Jardim Gonzaga neighborhoods. These sites are designed to receive small quantities of construction debris, pruning waste, old furniture, tires, and electronic equipment. The project is being carried out by the Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seinfra) with technical support from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) through the Juazeiro do Norte Urban Sanitation and Infrastructure Program (PSIU Juazeiro).

The program, which includes the Juazeiro Limpo initiative, seeks to encourage responsible disposal practices and change how the population interacts with waste management to prevent the formation of new illegal dumping sites.
