Brazil judicial updates: TSE orders re-examination of Iguatu electoral case

Various judicial and administrative actions are unfolding across Brazil involving local governance and electoral integrity.

In Ceará, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) annulled a ruling by the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-CE) regarding an investigation into the Mayor and Vice-Mayor of Iguatu. Minister André Mendonça ordered the case to be re-examined by the full court to address allegations of illegal vote-buying and abuse of economic power linked to criminal organizations.

In Tocantins, the Regional Electoral Court ordered Meta to remove a video from Instagram within 24 hours. The video, posted by the Mayor of Axixá, was deemed to contain disinformation that distorted judicial proceedings involving political candidates.

In Piauí, the 3rd Civil Court of Parnaíba removed two child welfare counselors from their positions due to professional misconduct and negligence. Additionally, the Public Ministry is monitoring a police investigation in Jaicós regarding a woman suspected of impersonating a lawyer to defraud an elderly woman through fraudulent loans.

In Parauapebas, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (COMDCAP) established new regulations for handling complaints against child welfare counselors, including a 72-hour window for preliminary analysis.
