Judicial commission criticizes police investigation in Mir Raza Ali murder case

A judicial commission led by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial has heavily criticized the investigation into the killing of businessman Mir Raza Ali, accusing police of destroying critical evidence. During proceedings in Karachi, Justice Sial questioned SSP Samiullah Soomro regarding the burning of the crime scene, noting that such actions are not part of standard police protocol. The judge remarked that the investigation lapses had “destroyed” the case, drawing parallels to compromised crime scenes in the Benazir Bhutto and Murtaza Bhutto investigations.

SSP Soomro testified that he did not order the fire, identifying a police official named Ghaus as the individual who set the site ablaze. The commission also raised concerns regarding the recording of witness statements, noting that 23 out of 33 statements were recorded by individuals other than the designated investigation officer.

Additionally, the commission questioned ASP Nida Junaid regarding her presence at key locations and her role in the investigation. The inquiry also touched upon the identity of a woman referred to as “mysterious Ambreen” and examined testimony from witness Sarim Sahir, who provided details regarding Mir Raza’s business dealings and a demand for 30 million rupees.
