Judicial Service Commission dismisses one magistrate and reinstates another

The Judicial Service Commission has issued two significant rulings regarding judicial officers in Sri Lanka.

Former Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage has been dismissed from his post. The decision follows a disciplinary inquiry in which he was found guilty of all charges. Gamage, who previously served as a District Judge in Moratuwa, had been under suspension since August 2025. His professional history includes a 2015 suspension related to the illegal possession of an elephant calf, for which he was later acquitted in 2021.

In a separate development, the Judicial Service Commission has reinstated Kosala Senadheera, the former Magistrate of the Colombo Fort Court. Senadheera, who had been serving under suspension, will receive back pay covering the duration of his absence from duty. The commission's decision to restore his position and award entitlements suggests a conclusion to the review process regarding his suspension.
