Juicy Luicy cancels Batam festival appearance over baggage dispute

The Bandung-based pop band Juicy Luicy canceled their scheduled performance at the XYZ Liveground music festival in Batam on September 5, 2026, sparking significant debate within the Indonesian music industry.

The dispute centered on excess baggage fees and accommodation issues. According to vocalist Julian Kaisar, the band decided not to proceed because the organizer failed to pay for baggage and provided only one day of hotel accommodation. The festival promoter, XYZ Liveground, clarified that they had offered a reimbursement system for baggage fees, noting that other performers faced similar issues but continued their travel. The promoter expressed disappointment, stating that the cancellation disrupted preparations involving travel tickets, accommodation, and production teams.

The incident has drawn reactions from various industry figures. Singer Nadin Amizah defended the logistical needs of musicians, noting that musical equipment can weigh hundreds of kilograms. However, other industry professionals have criticized the band's decision to cancel the appearance over these specific logistical disputes.
