Juicy Luicy Batam festival cancellation dispute

Overview

The Bandung-based pop band Juicy Luicy canceled their scheduled performance at the XYZ Liveground music festival in Batam on September 5, 2026, following a dispute regarding logistical arrangements.

Initial reports indicated the cancellation stemmed from disagreements over excess baggage fees and insufficient hotel accommodation. The festival promoter, XYZ Liveground, stated they had offered a reimbursement system for baggage and expressed disappointment that the cancellation disrupted production and travel preparations.

Juicy Luicy later issued a formal clarification, asserting that the organizer failed to meet specific obligations outlined in their riders. While the performance fee was settled shortly before departure, the band claimed they did not receive essential documentation such as accommodation proof, return flight tickets, or prepaid extra baggage. The band stated they would not apologize to the organizer due to what they termed negligence and indicated they are prepared to defend their position against potential legal action.

In subsequent clarifications, the band noted they had been requesting payment certainty and travel arrangements since seven days before the event. They specified that the dispute involved significant excess baggage costs, estimated at approximately Rp44 million. Following public criticism, vocalist Julian ‘Uan’ Kaisar expressed frustration during a social media live stream, after which his personal Instagram account was reportedly deactivated. To mitigate the controversy, Juicy Luicy announced they would donate 100% of the remaining funds received from the organizer to people in need in Batam.
