Germany sees success at European Athletics Championships
Germany achieved a notable medal count at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, securing six gold, ten silver, and five bronze medals. Key successes included gold for decathlete Leo Neugebauer, javelin thrower Julian Weber, steeplechase runners Gesa Krause and Frederik Ruppert, and marathoner Amanal Petros.
Javelin thrower Julia Ulbricht secured a surprise silver medal with a throw of 61.53 meters, finishing just behind Croatia’s Sara Kolak. Ulbricht’s achievement is highlighted by her personal struggle with sports funding; having been removed from the national squad last year, she has relied on side jobs, such as babysitting and coaching, to cover living expenses.
In the steeplechase, Karl Bebendorf earned a bronze medal in the 3000m event. Despite the podium finish, Bebendorf expressed significant frustration regarding his tactical performance and physical condition, stating that his personal ambition is to be the best rather than competing for bronze.
