Women's javelin at European Athletics Championships

The women’s javelin competition at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham progressed from the qualifying rounds to the final medal ceremony.

During the qualifying stage, Yulenmis Aguilar secured a spot in the final after recording a best throw of 59.85 meters, placing fifth overall. Aguilar, who is returning to major competition following elbow surgery, opted to skip her final attempt to save energy for the final.

In the final, Croatia’s Sara Kolak won the gold medal with a throw of 62.43 meters. Germany’s Julia Ulbricht earned the silver medal with a throw of 61.53 meters. Ulbricht’s podium finish was noted as a significant achievement following a period of financial hardship and exclusion from the German national squad. Her success follows a year where she relied on part-time jobs, such as babysitting and coaching, to cover rent and living expenses after being removed from the national squad.

Ulbricht’s performance contributed to a successful overall campaign for Germany at the championships, where the nation secured six gold, ten silver, and five bronze medals. Other notable German successes included gold medals for decathlete Leo Neugebauer, javelin thrower Julian Weber, steeplechase runners Gesa Krause and Frederik Ruppert, and marathoner Amanal Petros. In the 3000m steeplechase, Karl Bebendorf earned a bronze medal, though he expressed frustration regarding his tactical performance, stating his ambition is to be the best rather than competing for bronze.
