Juliana Guerrero sentenced to 3 years for procedural fraud

Juliana Guerrero has been sentenced to 36 months of prison after reaching a plea agreement with the Colombian Prosecutor General’s Office. The conviction stems from procedural fraud involving the use of falsified university degrees from the Fundación Universitaria San José to seek the position of Vice Minister of Youth within the Ministry of Equality during the Gustavo Petro administration.

Following the sentencing, Prosecutor Gregorio Eljach has ordered an appeal against the plea agreement. The prosecution seeks to investigate an additional charge of falsifying public documents, arguing that Guerrero’s actions on state platforms seriously harmed public trust and transparency. If this new charge is successful, Guerrero could face up to 12 years in prison and a disqualification from holding public office for up to 15 years.

Guerrero, a 24-year-old from Valledupar, has publicly addressed the case via social media. While apologizing to her family and the country, she denied allegations of using seduction to advance her career and claimed she has been the victim of slander and personal attacks against her family.
