Juliano Tchula declines to appear in Marília Mendonça biopic

Composer Juliano Tchula, a longtime collaborator of the late Brazilian sertaneja singer Marília Mendonça, has publicly refused to be depicted in the forthcoming Prime Video biopic about the artist. He said his lawyers were instructed two years ago to block any use of his image, and that they have recently re‑notified the producers. Tchula emphasized that his decision is unrelated to the film’s script or portrayal; he wants to focus on his current religious life and family, stating “I do not care about the storyline, I just want to live the present with Jesus.”

The production, which began filming this month and is scheduled for a 2027 release, will feature Marina Versos as Marília Mendonça, with a supporting cast that includes Hermila Guedes, Klara Castanho, Sophia Valverde and Marcelo Serrado. Actor João Guilherme is set to play Tchula, but the composer’s objection does not appear to halt the project.
