Juliette Binoche awarded Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

French actress Juliette Binoche received the Crystal Globe, an honorary award for her contribution to world cinema, at the closing ceremony of the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on 11 July. In an emotional address she emphasized the power of cinema to bring people together and urged solidarity with artists who lack freedom of expression, specifically naming Palestine, Lebanon and Ukraine.

Binoche also reflected on her collaboration with Polish director Krzysztof Kieślowski, recalling his film “Three Colours: Blue” and his sudden death in 1996. The ceremony also honored other cinema figures such as Dustin Hoffman and Robert Richardson, underscoring the festival’s role as a gathering of global film talent.
