Julián Pérez Mallqui faces domestic violence allegations and past theft conviction

Peruvian lawmaker Julián Pérez Mallqui, a member of the Juntos por el Perú party, is facing legal scrutiny following allegations of physical and psychological violence against his former partner. The incident occurred on July 30 in San Miguel. While police reports indicate the victim sought immediate assistance following a struggle, resulting in Pérez Mallqui's arrest, the deputy denies the accusations. He characterized the incident as a “confusing event” and claimed the complaint was driven by “anger and rage,” asserting that he was actually the one subjected to aggression.

In addition to the current investigation, reports have surfaced regarding Pérez Mallqui's past legal history. Records indicate that in 2001, he was detained and imprisoned at the Yanamilla prison in Ayacucho for aggravated theft. He was accused of stealing three chainsaws and other tools donated by the NGO Winrock International to farmers in the Vraem region. Pérez Mallqui remained incarcerated from July to December 2001 before being released following a suspended sentence. The lawmaker has remained silent regarding this prior conviction, which was not disclosed on his official curriculum vitae during his 2026 congressional candidacy.
