During the tenth day of the Feria de San Isidro at Madrid’s Las Ventas, 18‑year‑old Salmantian novillero Julio Norte delivered two strong performances, cutting two ears and being awarded the coveted Puerta Grande, a hallmark of a successful debut.

Catalan debutant Mario Vilau also cut an ear but was seriously injured when a bull gored his left thigh. He was taken to the infirmary after the incident. Fellow newcomer Pedro Luis had a lackluster showing, failing to win any awards. The novillada featured six young bulls from the Fuente Ymbro herd and drew about 881 spectators.

The event highlighted both the promise of a rising star in Norte and the hazards inherent in bullfighting, underscored by Vilau’s injury.
