Julio Velarde receives Senate commission recommendation for BCRP presidency

The Special Procedures Commission of the Peruvian Senate has approved a report recommending the ratification of Julio Velarde Flores as the president of the Board of Directors of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). The decision was reached with nine votes in favor, two against, and one abstention.

Senator Hugo Ccahuana Aymachoque, chair of the commission, stated that Velarde meets all constitutional and legal requirements, possesses the necessary professional experience, and presents no incompatibilities for the role. The Executive Branch formally designated Velarde for a new five-year term on August 21. If ratified by the Senate, he will lead the institution responsible for the country's monetary policy until 2031.

The approved report will now proceed to the Senate Plenary for deliberation and a final vote. Ratification requires a favorable vote from more than half of the legal members of the Senate.
