June 15 2026 Amavasya deemed auspicious for rituals across India

On 15 June 2026 the Hindu calendar marks a rare Somvati Amavasya, when a new moon falls on a Monday and aligns with the Mṛgśira nakshatra and the Amṛta Siddhi yoga. Astrologers in Ujjain say that performing rites such as tarpaṇa, Śrāddha and charitable donations on this day yields amplified merit and is believed to improve children’s behaviour.

The same date also marks the final Amavasya of the Māl month (Jyeṣṭhā Amavasya). Tradition holds that worship of Lord Vishnu, along with ancestor offerings, brings family prosperity and peace. Recommended practices include early‑morning bath, setting up a Vishnu image, offering yellow flowers, ghee lamps and chanting “Om Namo Bhagavate Vāsudevāya”. Both observances stress the importance of timing, donations to the needy, and adherence to prescribed puja windows for maximum benefit.
