June 15 vehicle circulation bans go into effect in Quito and Mexico City

Quito, Ecuador, will enforce its Pico y Placa traffic restriction on Monday, 15 June 2026. Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 or 2 cannot circulate during the morning (06:00‑09:30) and evening (16:00‑20:00) windows. Motorcycles are subject to the same rule based on the final numeric digit. Exemptions include senior citizens, persons with disabilities, electric vehicles and emergency services. Fines are calculated on the 2026 basic salary of $482, ranging from $72.30 for a first offence to $241 for repeated violations.

In Mexico City and the State of Mexico, the Hoy No Circula program will operate as usual on the same day. Cars with yellow stickers and plate numbers ending in 5 or 6 are prohibited from 05:00 to 22:00. Vehicles bearing verification holograms 1 or 2 face the same restriction, while foreign‑registered plates are limited to 05:00‑11:00 unless a tourist pass applies. Exempt vehicles include those with holograms 0 and 00, electric and hybrid cars, emergency units, school transport, and vehicles for people with disabilities. The penalty for non‑compliance is 20‑30 UMA (approximately 2,347 – 3,519 MXN). No double‑restriction phase was activated because ozone levels did not exceed the contingency threshold.
