June 2026 Hindu festivals Kala Ashtami and Masik Durga Ashtami observed

Kala Ashtami, a monthly Hindu observance dedicated to the fierce deity Kala Bhairava, falls on 8 June 2026 due to an extra lunar month (Adhik Mass). Devotees perform puja, fast, and avoid actions such as harming dogs, eating salt, or consuming meat and alcohol, believing the rites ward off the adverse effects of Saturn, Rahu‑Ketu and other negative influences.

Masik Durga Ashtami, another monthly observance, is scheduled for 21‑22 June 2026 (the Shukla‑Paksha Ashtami of the Jyeshtha month). Worshippers fast, bathe with Ganga water, dress in red, and offer flowers, fruits, incense and sweets to the goddess Durga. The prescribed muhurats span pre‑dawn to evening, and the rituals are thought to protect against negative energy and bring prosperity.

Both festivals are part of the Hindu lunar calendar and are expected to be observed by devotees across India, with special prayers and offerings aimed at spiritual cleansing and protection.
