Gabriel Moreno wins NL batting title as Junior Caminero makes Rays history
Gabriel Moreno, catcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has secured the National League batting title with a .311 average. He narrowly defeated compatriot Luis Arráez, who finished with a .310 average after being sidelined by an ankle injury. Moreno becomes the first Venezuelan catcher to win a batting title and the first Diamondbacks player to achieve the feat. He is also one of only five catchers in MLB history to win a batting title since 1961.
In other Major League Baseball news, Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays has made franchise history. Caminero became the first player in Rays history to record consecutive 40-home run seasons, finishing the 2026 campaign with 42 home runs and 101 RBIs. His performance helped the Rays clinch the American League East division title and the top seed for the playoffs.
